The Under-appreciated Item of the Week!

Each week I would like to give a shout out to some object or food product that can really amp up your overall eating life, yet is usually overlooked and rarely brought home from the grocery store.

This weeks item is.....drum roll!..........

This week I found Classico’s Traditional Basil Pesto on sale at Macey’s for only $2.99. The beauty of Pesto is that a little goes a loooong way. Plus, one can't help feeling a little Euro-chic while eating it.

I’ve brainstormed some of the possible uses:
  1. The obvious- put it on pasta!
  2. Add to your grilled cheese sandwiches to add some class
  3. Use as a spread on bread
  4. Add to potatoes, baked or mashed
  5. Check here, for even more ideas!
Please don’t forget about Pesto this week, and please comment with some of your favorite ways to show Pesto a little lovin! Happy eating!

  1. Pesto pizza is life-changing. And pesto in general. That's all.

  2. Gloria's Little Italy does this sandwich that I really like, and it's super easy to make at home. It's some sort of crusty roll (like a submarine or bolillo roll) spread with a little bit of pesto, topped with cooked, sliced chicken breast, a few slices of red onion, and some provolone or mozzarella. Then you bake the whole thing at like 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes. Or you could also broil it for a few minutes. Love it.

  3. I made pasta from scratch the other day and had it with green pesto, pine nuts, semi dried tomatoes, fetta cheese, roast pumpkin and roast capsicum and it was the most amazing thing I have ever tasted :)

  4. Such a great idea Mary! I would have never thought to put pesto on potatoes, but now I'm definitely going to try it!
